“When planning a study that will be analyzed with a one sample paired t-test, the total sample size is just half of the sample size per group listed in Appendix 6A. For example, for α = 0.05 (two-sided) and b = 0.2, to detect a 0.5 standard deviation difference (E/S=0.5) would require 64/2 = 32 subjects.”
